Traditionally, companies view supply chain management (SCM) as a function of the purchasing department and as something that a company does to its suppliers. This book, written by Sherry Gordon, takes a much larger, strategic and cross-functional view of SCM as a way to reframe major business drivers in order to achieve internal capability improvements and responsiveness to customers.

This book introduces SCM as a business system, and the SCM System Framework as a model of this business system. The reader will find background information and context, and a complete description of the SCM System Framework and its high-performance organizational characteristics.
