Topics will include, but are not limited to: organization and management of medical technology; economics of medical technology; R&D management in the context of medical technology; strategic management of medical technology; financial management of medical technology; marketing medical technology; engineering economics of medical technology; quality management (clinical and administrative) of medical technology; innovation and new product development in medical technology.

The deadline for this special issue is Jan. 1, 1996. Five copies of the manuscript should be sent to the editors: Dr. Eliezer Geisler and Ori Heller, M.D. Editorial Office, International Journal of Technology Management, Special Issues Series on the Management of Technology in Health Care, Department of Management, College of Business University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, WI 53190-1797; Phone: (414) 472-3971; Fax: (414) 472-4863.

Measuring IT Investment Payoff

The forthcoming book "Measuring Information Technology Investment Payoff: Contemporary Approaches" will bring together pure research, practical research, critical analysis, and case studies to measure IT investment payoff. IT includes artificial intelligence, expert systems, decision support systems, executive information systems, strategic information systems, computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, computers, telecommunications, etc.

The author is seeking manuscripts to include that investigate the relationship between IT investment and organizational strategic and/or economic benefits including increased productivity, quality, flexibility and financial performance. These benefits may also include reduced costs, bottlenecks and customer dissatisfaction. Such papers' primary focus should be on contemporary approaches and methods for measuring IT investment payoff. They can be theoretical, empirical, or case-based.

Manuscript proposals are invited in (but are not limited to) measuring the business payoff of: marginal value of strategic investments in IT; network business externalities; IT and responsive systems; electronic data interchange technology; office automation technology; inter-organizational information systems; IT from knowledge work; using IT to build switching costs; utilizing IT to develop cost leadership; employing IT to develop new products and services.

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit a 3-5 page manuscript proposal. Five copies should be submitted to the address below. The deadline for submission is Jan. 15, 1996. The book is scheduled to be published by Idea Group Publishing (Harrisburg, Pa.) in the Fall of 1997. If you would like to discuss a possible topic or participate in some way, call Mo Adam Mahmood at (915) 747-7754/5496 or Edward J. Szewczak at (716) 888-2239.
