Division Director, Modeling and Simulation

Aptima is a market leader in assessing and enhancing human performance in complex, mission-critical systems (e.g., military operations, healthcare, emergency response). We currently have an opening for the Director of our Modeling and Simulation Division, which applies modeling and quantitative methods to analyze, forecast, and shape the decisions and behaviors of individuals, the structure and processes of organizations, and the attitudes and actions of cultural groups. Scientists and engineers within the Division employ a wide variety of techniques including social network pattern analysis, network modeling, discrete event simulation, agent-based modeling, statistical natural language processing, computational sociology, mathematical optimization, and systems dynamics. The Division works closely with Aptima's social scientists, human factors professionals, and software engineers to develop solutions that improve mission effectiveness.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. or Masters Degree in any of the following:
    • Applied mathematical modeling (e.g., Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Systems Engineering)
    • Behavioral science with a strong quantitative emphasis (e.g., Cognitive Science, Cognitive Psychology, A.I., Computational Linguistics)
    • Social/organizational science with a strong mathematical focus (e.g., Mathematical Sociology, Mathematical Anthropology, Organizational Behavior)
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in DoD-related projects and domains
  • Demonstrated success developing business opportunities through lead generation and proposal writing
  • Experience leading highly a credentialed scientific/technical staff of 10 or more
  • Experience managing R&D contracts
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary research and development teams
  • Journal and/or other refereed publications
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Must be able to obtain Secret security clearance

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Collaboratively define Division strategy and oversee its execution
  • Oversee delivery of high quality services and products that meet/exceed customer expectations
  • Lead and direct business development activities for the Division
  • Mentor staff members so that they can conduct innovative technical work and support business development opportunities. Recruit new staff members as needed
  • Actively support multidisciplinary work within Aptima
  • Directly perform technical work

Aptima will compensate applicants for any travel or relocation expenses to fill this position. All applicants must be willing to work onsite in either the Boston (Woburn) or Washington DC office, Monday through Friday (no telecommuting or compressed schedules).
