WSC 2008

The Winter Simulation Conference (WSC) is the premier international forum for disseminating recent advances in the field of system simulation. In addition to a technical program of unsurpassed scope and quality, WSC provides the central meeting place for simulation practitioners, researchers and vendors working in all disciplines in industry, government, military and academia. The theme for WSC 2008 is "Global Gateway to Discovery."

WSC 2008 will be held in Miami, Fla., at the InterContinental Hotel, Dec. 7-10.

The keynote speaker is Margaret Brandeau, Stanford University Professor of Management Science and Engineering, who will present a talk entitled "Modeling and Simulation in Public Health: A Little Help can Go A Long Way." Professor Brandeau has published numerous articles in areas of applied operations research and policy analysis, has co-edited the books "Modeling the AIDS Epidemic: Planning, Policy, and Prediction" and "Operations Research in Health: A Handbook of Methods and Applications."

WSC 2008 features a comprehensive program ranging from introductory tutorials to state-of-the-art research and practice. The conference will also incorporate the MASM (Modeling and Analysis for Semiconductor Manufacturing) Conference, the leading modeling and analysis conference for global semiconductor manufacturing and supply chain operations. MASM will feature an international panel discussion titled "Modeling and Analysis of Semiconductor Manufacturing in a Shrinking World: Challenges and Successes." As part of the conference theme, WSC 2008 will feature a track titled "Simulation Around the World," highlighting the uses of simulation in different global regions.

Contributions to the technical program are solicited in the following general areas, and papers in all areas of discrete-event and combined discrete-event/continuous simulation will be considered: advanced tutorials, analysis methodology, business process modeling, case studies, construction and project management, general applications, health care, introductory tutorials, logistics, transportation and distribution, manufacturing applications, military applications, modeling methodology, risk analysis, security and emergency response, simulation around the world, simulation education, semiconductor manufacturing (MASM2008) and simulation interoperability.

All contributed paper submissions will be peer reviewed. Accepted papers will be published in the CD-ROM versions of the conference proceedings, which will be copyrighted and widely disseminated. A paper must accompany all presentations and tutorials except those in the Vendor/Exhibitor track, the Simulation Case Studies track, the Poster Session and the Ph.D. Colloquium. Instructions, information, submission forms and procedures are available on the WSC Web site, www.wintersim.org.

Deadlines
April 2: Electronically submit contributed papers not previously published or presented. Each submission must be a 3- to 9-page paper, including an abstract of not more than 150 words. Panel papers and papers in the tutorials tracks may be up to 12 pages. Submission implies that an author will attend WSC'08 to present the paper, and all clearance required for publication of the paper will be obtained by July 15, 2008. Use of one of the following formats is required: Microsoft Word or LaTeX. Submissions must be made through the WSC website, www.wintersim.org.

June 4: Contributors will be notified whether or not their paper has been accepted.

July 15: Authors electronically provide a final manuscript meeting all requirements to the proceedings editor.

Sept. 14: Deadline to electronically submit abstracts for Simulation Case Studies (submission form available Aug. 1), as well as abstracts for presentations in the Poster Session and Ph.D. Student Colloquium. Simulation Case Studies require involvement from an industrial sponsor.

The INFORMS Simulation Society invites Ph.D. students to present short research summaries on Dec. 7. Colloquium presenters also participate in the Poster Session. Nominations for the Ph.D. Colloquium will be solicited in Fall 2008.
