PAC Enjoys Productive Meeting

The Public Awareness Committee enjoyed a busy and productive schedule during the INFORMS 2005 San Francisco Meeting. The highlights:

  • The PAC conducted a well-received Teachers Workshop for San Francisco-area math/science teachers, with presentations by Ken Chelst of Wayne State, Keebom Kang of the Naval Postgraduate School, Barry Nelson of Northwestern and Dave Goldsman of Georgia Tech.

  • The INFORMS Board approved an initial $4,000 scholarship, to be awarded to a high school student at the INFORMS 2006 Pittsburgh Meeting, as a PAC "Science of Better" initiative. The selection process will be competitive as PAC picks among the Pittsburgh area's top math/science students.

  • PAC officers Goldsman and Frank Trippi held an initial planning meeting for the upcoming 2006 Pittsburgh Teachers Workshop with Meeting General Chair Mike Trick of Carnegie-Mellon, Brady Hunsaker of the University of Pittsburgh and Kevon Kandt of PPG Industries, Inc.
