OR/MS Today INFORMS News Posted: 6/15/03 2003 JFIG Paper Competition The Junior Faculty Interest Group (JFIG) Forum invites submissions to the first JFIG Paper Competition. JFIG Forum was created in 2001 to promote, through many means, the career development of tenure-track faculty in INFORMS. The goals of the competition are to encourage research among junior faculty and to increase the visibility of the research conducted by junior faculty within the fields of operations research and management science. The entries will be judged by the Award Committee and up to six finalists will be selected. The papers submitted for the competition will be evaluated based on the importance of the topic, appropriateness of the research approach, and the significance of research contribution. Up to four awards (first, second and two honorable mentions) may be given upon recommendation of the Award Committee. Winners will be announced at the INFORMS meeting in Atlanta, where all finalists will present their research at a JFIG-sponsored session. The conditions for eligibility are: 1. Each entrant must have been an assistant professor in a tenure-track position at a university on or after Jan. 1 of the year of the award. 2. The paper may be co-authored with students or other qualifying entrants, but not with senior faculty. In case of multiple qualifying entrants as co-authors, the paper may be submitted jointly. 3. The submitted paper must present original research results obtained and written by the entrant(s). 4. The research must have been completed while the entrant(s) was an assistant professor. 5. The paper must not have won another prize (first or second) in a previous competition. A complete entry includes: 1) a cover document with the title of the paper along with the entrant's name, current affiliation, e-mail address and phone number, and a statement that all eligibility requirements have been met and signed by all JFIG entrants; and 2) a main document containing a separate title page with an abstract and the main paper (30 pages or less including tables and figures). All submissions should be made electronically (PDF files). The submission deadline for the 2003 JFIG Paper Competition is July 15. Send submissions and direct questions to: Dr. Phil Kaminsky, Committee Chair, Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, University of California, Berkeley, CA 94720; phone: 510-642-4927; fax: 510-642-1403; e-mail: kaminsky@ieor.berkeley.edu.
