Call for Papers
Special Issue of the
IIE Transactions on Scheduling and Logistics
This special issue on manufacturing logistics will focus
on topics which go across the traditional boundaries of
production and operations management.

Topics of interest include:
- Planning and coordination of production across
multiple facilities;
- Integration issues between manufacturing and other
functional areas (e.g., sales and marketing, engineering
design);
- Integrating emerging technologies (e.g., EDI,
Intranet, Internet) in production.
All submissions should include five copies of a one-page
description of "why this paper is important" in addressing
the issues outlined above. Format of the paper should follow
the specification described in "Instructions for Authors" on
the back of each Transaction issue or check the following
address for instructions:

1998 Combinatorial Optimization Conference
The 1998 Combinatorial Optimization Conference, hosted by
the Universite Libre de Bruxelles, will be held on April
15-17, 1998 in Brussels. This conference theme is:
"Combinatorial Optimization: Recent Advances in Theory and
Practice."

Papers and abstracts are invited on the following areas
of study: logistics and routing, scheduling, financial
modeling, network optimization, polyhedral combinatorics,
computer vision and location analysis. Entries should be
written in plain text or Latex and must contain the
following information: title, each author's first and last
name, affiliation, name and affiliation of the speaker, up
to three keywords, and the content of the abstract (not to
exceed 300 words).

Special Issue of Information Systems Research
on "The Information Industries"
The Information Industries including computers,
communications, consumer and industrial electronics, and the
content industries (media, publishing, movie) are a
large and growing sector of the global economy. This special
issue of Information Systems Research focuses on the
information industries and, as a secondary theme, on their
impact on the information systems domain.

Examples of the types of topics sought for the special
issue include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Effects of industry forces &emdash; suppliers,
customers, substitute products, and competition &emdash;
on both the producers and users of its products; and
- Studies of industry structure, strategic alliances
and product classification.

Special issue of
International Journal of Technology Management
Papers are sought for a special issue on "Innovation in
Manufacturing: A New Perspective for Improving
Competitiveness" for the International Journal of Technology
Management. Contributed papers may deal with, but are not
limited to:
- Innovation in international manufacturing operations
- Product development strategies and innovation
- Interrelationships between technological, economic,
social and political objectives of innovation in
manufacturing
- Innovation strategies in manufacturing
Research surveys and application papers in the above
areas are also welcome. Manuscripts should not exceed 25
double-spaced pages including figures and illustrations.

The purpose of the special issue is to help the senior
managers and researchers in understanding and appreciating
the concepts, design and implementation of Agile
Manufacturing Systems (AMS).

Papers are sought on the following topics: rapid
prototyping, supply chain management, lean production, quick
response manufacturing, concurrent engineering and rapid
partnership formation.

EURO XVI, the 16th European Conference on Operational

Journal of Interdisciplinary Mathematics
The Journal of Interdisciplinary Mathematics is a new
publication of the Academic Forum devoted to the
interdisciplinary nature of mathematics. Each volume is
scheduled to appear in three issues, published in February,
June and October, commencing in 1998.

Papers are sought which discuss fresh applications and
research findings which encompass both applications and some
theoretical components which help the decision-making
process by utilizing mathematical modeling. These
applications may come from widely diverse fields.

Journal of Forecasting:
1997 Doctoral Research Paper Prize Competition
John Wiley and the editors of the Journal of Forecasting
are inviting submissions for the annual Journal of
Forecasting Doctoral Paper Prize.

This is for the best paper submitted to the competition,
originating from doctoral research into forecasting
methodology. Any topic or application relevant to the aims
and scope of the journal is welcome, but the paper must meet
the publishing criterion in the Journal of Forecasting.

Three copies of the paper should be sent to: Professor

Entries should include a statement from the student's
supervisor or institution, confirming the status of the
candidate as either being a current doctoral student or
within 12 months of graduating.

The closing date for the first prize is Nov. 28.
Bi-Annual Corporate Award for Forecasting Excellence
The Corporate Award for Forecasting Excellence is a
bi-annual presentation sponsored by the International
Institute of Forecasters (IIF) and will be made at the
Edinburgh Forecasting Symposium in June 1998. The purpose of
the award is to recognize corporations that have
demonstrated high levels of quality forecasting performance
during a three- to five-year period leading to significant
improvements in decision-making.

Nominations must include a letter describing the
forecasting system and its effects on the organization, plus
any additional information. Evidence of forecasting must be
supported by written statements from at least one senior
officer in the organization.

Interfaces Special Issue
"Supply Chain Management"
The goals of the special issue are to improve
the exchange of information between managers and
professionals in Supply Chain Management (SCM) and
to inform the academic community about practice.
Appropriate papers are descriptions of the practice
of SCM in commerce, industry, government or
education with strong emphasis on implementation.

Submission guidelines are listed in the
"Instructions to Authors" section in the
January-February issue of Interfaces. Submissions
must be postmarked no later than Feb. 27, 1998.

Interfaces Special Issue on Ecologically
Sustainable Business Practices
Preference will be shown to papers that examine
and demonstrate the integration of ecological
sustainability into the primary operating systems
of companies, with special attention to
implementation processes.

Papers are invited that describe decision-making
analyses in which sustainability played a role,
with detail on how and why such analyses have
resulted in new approaches and specific benefits.
These benefits may include cost savings and other
efficiencies, organizational changes and
improvements, and resulting market and competitive
advantage.

Editors are looking for papers from academicians
and practicing managers.

Papers must describe operations practice, have
strong implementation emphasis, and document usage
and benefits. Appropriate papers include reports on
training programs dealing with
management/operations issues in sustainability,
description and analysis of specific applications,
practice-oriented state-of-the-art reviews and
surveys of use, and comments from corporate
managers/executives.

Papers should not have been submitted elsewhere
or have been published; the length of the paper
should be between 10-20 pages, and the abstract no
more than 150 words.
