![]() February 2000 Call For Papers Special Issue on Web Data Mining The journal Decision Support Systems is seeking high-quality research papers for a special issue on "Web Data Mining." With an ever-increasing number of users, access sites and a range of electronic business activities, the Internet is witnessing a rapid growth of online data. There has arisen consequently the challenge of utilizing this wealth of data for improved business intelligence, better decision-making, enhanced customer relations, and better design of services and product offerings. Individuals, too, in a digital networked society have to contend with far greater information than one can analyze, understand or absorb. Papers related to the general theme of utilizing web-based data are welcomed. Topics of interest include: warehousing web data, web data capture and preparation, querying web data, analytical processing, intelligent retrieval and filtering, user profiling, web personalization, analyzing web usage data, intelligent assistants and information agents, web-based market research, direct marketing, and structuring and managing the data mining process. The submission deadline is July 31. Special Issue on Cutting, Packing and Related Problems The European Journal of Operational Research is planning to publish a special issue on "Cutting, Packing and Related Problems" in 2001. Papers are invited on both theoretical and practical aspects of cutting and packing. Papers from related areas, including pallet and container loading, nesting, bin packing, multi-processor scheduling and knapsack problems, are also invited. Case studies are particularly welcomed. EJOR Seeks ŒA Global View of Industrial Logistics' The European Journal of Operational Research is planning a special issue on the topic, "A Global View of Industrial Logistics." Michael Riley and David Brown of the Business Engineering Group, University of Southampton, are co-editors. This special issue of the EJOR should include 10 papers on modeling approaches applied to various fields of industrial logistics. These will be classified according to three broad categories: 1. product support logistics, 2. production support logistics, and 3. industrial sector support logistics. The emphasis of the special issue is on modelization of these various aspects using a variety of operations research techniques with a view towards industrial applications. Papers should be in English, not exceeding 10 pages in length. The deadline is Feb. 20. International Congress on Intelligent Systems and Applications The International Congress on Intelligent Systems and Applications (ISA/2000) will be held at the University of Wollongong (near Sydney), Australia, on Dec. 12-15. The Congress aims to provide researchers and practitioners from academia and industry with a forum to report on the latest developments in intelligent systems and their applications within the four major areas of computational intelligence, interactive and collaborative computing, industrial systems and biologically inspired systems. Prospective authors are requested to either send a draft paper (maximum seven pages) or an extended abstract for review by the International Program Committee. All submissions must be written in English, starting with a succinct statement of the problem, the results achieved, their significance and a comparison with previous work.
