![]() February 1998 Call for Papers Special issue of INFOR In recent years, there have been advances in the development of metaheuristics for combinatorial optimization problems. Such methods include: ant systems, constraint logic programming, genetic algorithms, GRASP methods, simulated annealing, tabu search, etc. We invite all interested researchers to submit their most recent works on the development and application of metaheuristic methods to these two fields. Five copies of the manuscript should be submitted to one of the following guest editors before March 31: Gilbert Laporte and Frederic Semet, Centre de Recherche sur les Transports, Universite de Montreal, C.P. 6128, Succursale Centreville,Montreal, Canada H3C 3J7; Phone: (514) 343-6143 and (514) 343-7323; Fax : (514) 343-7121; E-mail: gilbert@crt.umontreal.ca and frederic@crt.umontreal.ca 66th MORS Symposium The 66th MORS Symposium will be held on June 23-25, 1998, at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. MORS will offer two prizes for best papers the Barchi Prize and the Rist Prize. The David Rist Prize will be awarded to the best paper in military operations research. The Richard H. Barchi Prize will be awarded to the best paper from the entire 66th MORS Symposium, including Working Groups, Composite Groups and Special Sessions. The deadline for entry submission for the Rist Prize and the Barchi Prize are Sept. 30 and Nov. 28, respectively. Entries must meet the following critieria:
20th International Conference ITI' 98 The 20th International Conference Information Technology Interfaces 1998 (ITI' 98) will be held June 16-19, in Pula, Croatia. Topics to be covered will include: artificial intelligence and expert systems; and software engineering and pro-gramming languages. Authors who wish to present a paper at the conference or who wish to be considered for the poster/demo session should submit three copies of a paper related to any topic of the conference. Following presentation at the conference, a selection of papers will be recommended for publication in IMACS Journal Mathematics and Computers in Simulation and CIT Journal of Computing and Information Technology. Authors must submit a camera-ready copy of the full paper, prepared according to the Instructions to Authors, by March 15. To obtain a copy of the Instructions to Authors, contact: Damir Kalpic, chairman of the International Program Committee, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb; Phone: 385 1 6129 919; Fax: 385 1 6129 915; E-mail: damir.kalpic@fer.hr Daniel H. Wagner Prize Call CPMS, the Practice Section of INFORMS, has established an Operations Research Practice Prize with a cash award, in memory of the late Daniel H. Wagner, who strove for strong mathematics applied to practical problems, supported by clear intelligible writing. The competition will be held annually at the Fall National Meeting with the first competition being in 1998. Interested applicants must submit:
Deadline is March 15, 1998. 1999 NSF-CBMS Regional Research Conferences Request for Proposals To stimulate interest and activity in mathematical research, the National Science Foundation intends to support up to five NSF-CBMS Regional Research Conferences in 1999. A panel chosen by the Conference Board of the Mathematical Sciences will make the selections from among the submitted proposals. Each five-day conference features a distinguished lecturer who delivers 10 lectures on a topic of current research in one focused area of the mathematical sciences. The lecturer prepares an expository monograph based upon these lectures, which is normally published as a part of a regional conference series. Each year a panel of research mathematicians, appointed by NSF and CBMS and reflecting the wide spectrum of research in the mathematical sciences, reviews all the proposals for individual conferences. The proposals compete against each other, and the decisions on which conference to fund are made by representatives of the research community with a broad perspective on current research. Proposals should be prepared according to the NSF Grant Proposal Guide (a copy of which is available at http://www.nsf.gov). Questions concerning the preparation of proposals for conferences should be directed to: Conference Board of the Mathematical Sciences, 1529 Eighteenth St., NW, Washington, D.C. 20036; Phone: (202) 293-1170; Fax: (202) 265-2384. Send 15 copies of the complete proposal to: Division of Mathematical Sciences, National Science Foundation PPU, 4201 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA 22230. Deadline is April 6, 1998.
