Call for Papers

Special Issue of Discrete Applied Mathematics

Discrete Applied Mathematics will publish a special issue on "Foundations of Heuristics in Combinatorial Optimization." Papers are sought in the broad area of heuristics (meta heuristics) for combinatorial optimization problems with a focus on theoretical analysis.

Of particular interest are papers on design and/or analysis of heuristics with emphasis on worst-case bounds, domination analysis, probabilistic analysis, theoretical insights generated by experimental analysis, etc. All papers submitted for consideration will undergo a standard review process.

Four copies of the paper, following the standard guidelines for Discrete Applied Mathematics, should be sent by Oct. 15, 1999 to: Dr. Z. Gregory Gutin, Department of Mathematics & Statistics, Brunel, The University of West London, Uxbridge, Middlesex UB8 3PH, UK; or Dr. Abraham Punnen, Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science, University of New Brunswick, Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada E2L 4L5.

Special Issue of International Journal of Applied Intelligence

In recent years, there have been significant advances in the theory and applications of meta-heuristics to the approximate solutions of complex optimization problems.

This special issue of International Journal of Applied Intelligence on applied metaheuristics will provide the advantage of grouping high-quality papers with a special emphasis on the applications of metaheuristics in business, industry or public administration.

When preparing their manuscripts, authors should follow the Instructions to Authors available from http://www.wkap.nl/journals/apin or by request from the guest editor. Four copies should be submitted, no later than April 30, 1999, to: Dr. Ibrahim H. Osman, Visiting Professor, Department of Quantitative Methods & Information Systems, Faculty of Administrative Sciences, Kuwait University, P. O. Box 5486, Safat, Code No. 13055, Kuwait; fax: 00965-2549408; telephone: 00965-2523911, ext. 3281; e-mail: OsmanIH@kuc01.kuniv.edu.kw

Special Issue on "The Networked IT Organization"

The information systems (IS) function in organizations is being transformed in significant ways. Line managers and users are assuming an increasing portion of the responsibility for implementing and managing IS operations.

This call for papers is based on the premise that this and other changes call for a fundamental re-examination of our views of what has been traditionally referred to as the IS organization Ð its role and mission, its core capabilities and its structure.

Information Technology and Management invites papers that present innovative and interesting theories, practices and methods for studying the emerging IT organization. Both conceptual and empirical papers are welcome. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: Structure of the IT organization; Control and coordination mechanisms; New theoretical and methodological approaches; Skills needed for effectiveness in the new IT organization; and Management strategies for motivation in the new structure.

The deadline for submission of articles is May 1, 1999. However, the authors are encouraged to submit earlier. All papers will be peer reviewed. Paper formatting details can be found at http://www.baltzer.nl/itm/instruct.html. Four copies of the paper should be submitted to: Manju Ahuja, Information and Management Sciences, College of Business, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL 32306-1042; e-mail: mahuja@cob.fsu.edu or Vivek Choudhury, Information and Management Sciences, College of Business, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL 32306; vchoudhu@garnet.acns.cob.fsu or Harrison McKnight, Information and Management Sciences, College of Business, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL 32306; dMcknight@garnet.acns.cob.suor Ephraim R. McLean, Department of Computer Information Systems, Georgia State University, Box 4015, Atlanta, GA 30302-4015; e-mail: emclean@gsu.edu.

Managing Software Development & Maintenance

Nearing the end of the millenium, software managers face a difficult set of challenges. The dependence of business processes on computer software, as well as the expenditure for software development and maintenance, has increased considerably in recent years. Yet, many question whether the value created by the software justifies its cost. Despite pressures for increased productivity and quality, and the introduction of major software process innovations, most software projects continue to experience significant schedule delays, cost overruns and quality problems.

This special issue of Information Technology and Management seeks to consolidate and disseminate leading research at the intersection of software engineering, management and economics. Examples of the types of topics include (but are not limited to) the following: Assessment of software tools, methods and management techniques; Software productivity and quality; and Economics of outsourcing.

The deadline for submission of articles is April 30, 1999. However, authors are encouraged to submit papers earlier. All papers will be peer reviewed. Paper formatting details can be found at the journal's Web site, http://www.baltzer.nl/itm. Four copies of the paper should be submitted to: Prof. Rajiv D. Banker, School of Management, JO4.3, The University of Texas at Dallas, Richardson, TX 75083-0668, E-mail: rbanker@utdallas.edu or Prof. Sandra A. Slaughter, Graduate School of Industrial Admn., Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA 15213; E-mail: sandras@andrew.cmu.edu.

Special Issue: DEA Applications

A special issue of the journal, Studies inRegional and Urban Planning, will be devoted to the application of DEA to regional and urban planning issues. Submit four copies of each paper to: Professor Zilla Sinuany-Stern, Dept. of Industrial Engineering & Management, Ben Gurion University, Beer-Sheva, 84105, Israel; telephone: 972-7-6472223; fax: 972-7-6472958; e-mail: zilla@bgumail.bgu.ac.il. The deadline for submission is June 1, 1999.
