![]() April 2000 Call For Papers Special Issue on Electronic Commerce Issues for Business Education The Journal of Education for Business is seeking high quality articles for a special issue on "Electronic Commerce Issues for Business Education." Electronic commerce is going to affect every aspect of conducting business in the future. By its very nature, electronic commerce has changed or is going to change how businesses are operated, products are marketed, finance is obtained, expenses are accounted for, products are distributed, and stakeholders are informed about business activities. Profound changes are taking place that have significant implications for business education. Papers related to the general theme of electronic commerce issues that may affect business education are welcomed. For example, electronic commerce raises interesting challenges pertaining to audit, taxation, logistics, customer satisfaction, privacy, security, law, market research, valuation of companies and data management. This list is by no means exhaustive and authors are encouraged to submit articles that relate to the general theme. The submission deadline is Sept. 30, 2000. Four copies of papers should be submitted to the guest editor: Arup Mukherjee (amukherj@uwf.edu), Management/MIS department, College of Business, University of West Florida, 11000 University Parkway, Pensacola, FL 32514. Articles should conform to the APA format and should preferably be around 12-15 double-spaced pages in length. The Journal's usual practice of blind review will also apply to the articles for the special issue. Special Issue on Managing High Technology Research Organizations Effectively managing high-tech R&D organizations has become a subject of widespread concern. Some firms cannot effectively measure their R&D process, and others are either radically changing the charter of their R&D organization or eliminating it altogether. According to the Industrial Research Institute and NSF, private firms have cut their basic and applied research funding in real dollar terms. Paradoxically, many managers and academics believe keeping pace with technological change is essential to maintaining a firm's or nation's competitiveness. This special issue of the Engineering Management Journal focuses academic and practitioner effort on understanding and developing effective management practice for both private and public sector high-tech research organizations. Submissions may be theoretical, conceptual, empirical or case studies. The deadline for initial submissions is June 1, 2000. Earlier submission is encouraged. Papers submitted to this special issue will be reviewed under EMJ's editorial policies. Four copies should be sent to either of the special issue editors: Jonathan Linton, Department of Management, Polytechnic University, 401C Dibner, Six Metrotech Center, Brooklyn, NY 11201 (e-mail: jlinton@poly.edu); or Steven Walsh, Director of Technological Entrepreneurship, Anderson School of Management, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM 87131-1221 (e-mail: walsh@unm.edu). Global Optimization Meta-Heuristics for Industrial Systems Design and Management A special issue of Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing, dedicated to Global Optimization Meta-Heuristics for Industrial Systems Design and Management, will appear in 2001. Problems of industrial systems design and management have large solution space, i.e. the number of solutions is very large. Many local optima exist. Efficient methods for global optimization are required. The aim of this special issue is to present recent developments and applications concerning global optimization techniques for industrial engineering. Possible topics for papers submitted to the special issue include but are not limited to: greedy random adaptive search procedures; natural evolutionary computation; non-monotonic search strategies; partitioned search methods (branch-and-bound); statistical methods; simulated annealing; Tabu search; threshold algorithms and their hybrids. The special issue will focus on the following industrial applications: line balancing, layout and location, supply chain planning and inventory control, and scheduling and sequencing. Short abstract of tentative paper are due immediately with May 1 the deadline for full paper submission. Send four copies of the manuscript to either of the guest editors: Dr. Alexandre Dolgui or Dr. Philippe Lacomme at the Dept. of Industrial Engineering, University of Technology of Troyes,12 rue Marie-Curie, BP 2060, 10010 Troyes Cedex, France; fax: (+33) 3 25 71 56 49; phone: (+33) 3 25 71 56 29; e-mail: dolgui@univ-troyes.fr or lacomme@univ-troyes.fr Workshop on Discrete Algorithms and Methods for Mobile Computing & Communications The 4th International Workshop on Discrete Algorithms and Methods for Mobile Computing & Communications (DIALM for Mobility) will be held Aug. 11, 2000 in Boston in conjunction with ACM MobiCom 2000. April 25 is the deadline for submission of papers. Mobile computing and communications devices such as portable phones, laptops and palmtops will have an enormous impact on our lifestyle over the next several decades. The introduction of mobility raises a number of new research issues. This workshop is devoted to discrete algorithms and methods in the context of mobile and wireless computing and communications. The workshop is intended to serve as a forum for open discussions and lively debate. Contributions are solicited in all areas related to mobile computing and communications where discrete algorithms and methods are utilized, including, but not limited to: distributed algorithms, frequency allocation, scheduling, location tracking, site allocation, multihop packet radio networks, wireless networks, synchronization, cryptography and security, telecommunications, modeling, optimization and routing. All paper submissions and panel proposals will be handled electronically. Authors should e-mail a PostScript version of their full paper to elloyd@udel.edu. The font size should be at least 10 pt. The paper should not be longer than 10 single-spaced pages using a standard 10-point font. Panel proposals may be submitted in ASCII or PostScript format.
