Nicholson Student Paper Competition



Bertrand Guenin and Constantinos MaglarasBertrand Guenin and Constantinos Maglaras shared first-place honors in the 1999 George E. Nicholson Student Paper Competition. Award Committee Chairman Nicholas Hall made the presentations at the INFORMS meeting in Cincinnati.

The competition aims to recognize outstanding work by students in the field of operations research and the management sciences.

Guenin, a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon and now on the faculty at Georgia Tech, was honored for his paper entitled, "A Characterization of Weakly Bipartite Graphs." Maglaras, who did his dissertation work at Stanford before joining the faculty at Columbia University, was recognized for his paper, "Discrete-Review Policies for Scheduling Stochastic Networks: Trajectory Tracking and Fluid-Scale Asymptotic Optimality."

Wen Zhao of the Univ. of Pennsylvania received honorable mention.
