Sept. 30-Oct. 2: The 5th International Symposium on Operational Research (SOR '99) in Preddvor, Slovenia. The aim of SOR '99 is to provide a forum for presentation of original research in OR methodology, education and implementation, as well as in computing aspects of OR. Oct. 19-20, 1999: Thirty-eighth Annual U.S. Operations Research Symposium (AORS XXXVIII) in Fort Lee, Va. The U.S. Army Materiel Systems Analysis Activity is sponsoring this symposium, which is expected to draw some 200 government, academic and industrial leaders. The theme of this year's symposium is "Reshaping Army OR for the 21st Century Operational Challenge." Concurrent special sessions will cover the following areas: force development/modernization/requirements; C4ISR and information warfare; logistics systems; manpower, personnel and training systems; joint and combined operational analysis; advances in modeling and simulation; and test, evaluation and experimentation support to army modernization. In addition to the seven special sessions, the Army Logistics Management College (ALMC) will conduct two tutorials covering "Data Mining" and "OR Modeling in Spreadsheets." Attendance of this symposium is limited to invited observers and participants. Nov. 5-6: 1999 INFORMS Doctoral Colloquium in Philadelphia during the weekend preceeding the INFORMS National meeting. The application deadline will be in early September, and a formal call for nominations will appear in the August 1999 issue of OR/MS Today.
