Call for Papers

International Journal of Production Economics

The International Journal of Production Economics will publish a special issue on "Information Technology/Information Systems in 21st Century Manufacturing."

Strategic frameworks, empirical research, conceptual and analytical models, and case studies focusing on improving the design and development of IT/IS for the 21st century manufacturing competitiveness are especially encouraged. Contributed papers may deal with, but are not limited to:
  • Strategic IT/IS planning for future manufacturing competitiveness
  • Generic strategies for IT/IS planning
  • IT/IS investment justification for new manufacturing paradigm
  • Implications of organizational change on IT/IS implementation
  • Strategic benefits of IT/IS in 21st century manufacturing enterprise
  • Application of IT/IS in enterprise integration and management for the physically distributed manufacturing enterprise
  • Outsourcing of IT/IS projects
  • Integrating manufacturing strategy and IT/IS strategy
  • Methodologies for integrating manufacturing strategy and IT/IS strategy
  • The role of interorganizational information systems in manufacturing strategy
  • IT/IS in the virtual enterprise
  • IT/IS in shaping the factory of the future
  • Internet, EDI, electronic commerce in 21st century manufacturing
  • Information systems architecture for the 21st century manufacturing firm
Research surveys in the above areas are also welcome. Manuscripts should not exceed 25 double-spaced pages including the figures and the illustrations. Four copies of the manuscript, following the standard Guidelines (http://www.elsevier.nl/inca/publications/store/5/0/5/6/4/7/) for the International Journal of Production Economics should be mailed to one of the guest editors by March 31, 2000.

Special Issue of MOR

A special issue of Military Operations Research is planned around the theme, "Operations Research Methods for Information Operations: A Battlespace of the 21st Century."

Information is a strategic resource that is vital to national security and well being. Joint Doctrine 3-13 defines Information Operations (IO) as actions taken to affect an adversary's information and information systems while defending one's own information and information systems. This definition covers not only crisis or conflict-driven information warfare, but also a wider set of objectives and goals on a continual, on going, basis. These goals include offensive, defensive and assurance considerations for information, information systems and information processes. The recent Presidential Commission on Critical Infrastructure Protection highlights how these issues affect not only the military, but also industry, government and citizens in general.

This special issue seeks innovative, insightful developments, approaches and applications of operations research in modeling and analyzing information operations. Consideration will be given to operations research work in offensive, defensive and/or assurance issues for information, information systems and/or information processes. As these areas bridge both the public and private sectors, approaches may be illustrated with examples from either sector, although the potential for national security interest should be established. Since many IO concepts may be classified or sensitive, we are willing to consider unclassified techniques and analysis or those with realistic notional data.

Interested authors should submit papers by Nov. 30, 1999. The papers should be submitted in accordance with MOR's current editorial policy. The editorial policy and guidelines are available in the MOR journal or from the MORS office from Ms. Corrina Ross (MORSCM@aol.com). All papers will be refereed.

We are also seeking volunteers to serve as referees for this special issue. Contact the guest editor if you are interested in authoring a paper or serving as a referee for this special issue: Dr. Richard F. Deckro, Guest Editor, Military Operations Research, Department of Operational Sciences, Air Force Institute of Technology, AFIT/ENS, 2950 P ST, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH 45433-7765; Phone: 937-255-6565, ext. 4325; Fax: 937-656-4943; DSN: 785-6565 x4325; E-mail: Richard.Deckro@afit.af.mil.

Artificial Intelligence and Mathematics Symposium

The Sixth International Symposium on Artificial Intelligence and Mathematics will be held in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Jan. 5-7, 2000. The objective of the symposium is to foster interactions between mathematics, theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence. Traditionally, the Symposium attracts around 100 participants from a variety of disciplines, thereby providing a unique forum for active scientific exchange.

Topic sessions in the past have covered computational learning theory, data mining, knowledge representation, nonmonotonic reasoning, category theory and computational complexity issues in AI. The editorial board of the Annals of Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence serves as the permanent Advisory Committee for the series.

Authors must e-mail a short abstract (up to 200 words) in plain text format to amai@informatik.uni-freiburg.de by Sept. 23, and an extended abstract (up to 10 double-spaced pages) by Sept. 30. The final versions of the accepted extended abstracts, for inclusion in the conference volume, are due by Nov. 30. Full versions of a selected set of papers from the Symposium will be published in a special volume in the Annals of Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence, J.C. Baltzer Scientific Publishing Co.

Further information and future announcements can be obtained from the Conference Web site at http://rutcor.rutgers.edu/amai.
