Society of Manufacturing Engineers Partners with the Shingo Prize

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (Dearborn, Mich.; www.sme.org) announced that it will sponsor the Shingo Prize for 2002. Referred to by Business Week as the Noble prize in manufacturing, the Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing recognizes companies that achieve superior customer satisfaction and other positive business results.
Utah State University, in 1988, recognized Dr. Shigeo Shingo for his lifetime work with an Honorary Doctorate in Business and established the Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing. Dr. Shingo assisted in the creation of many of the revolutionary manufacturing methods, systems, and processes that make up the renowned Toyota Production System and related production systems.
Based in the United States, the Prize is presented annually to manufacturers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico and to researchers throughout the world. This year's award winners will be announced on February 26, 2002.
