Center for Workforce Success and 3M Foundation Release Manufacturing NOW

The National Association of Manufacturers' (Washington; www.nam.org) Center for Workforce Success unveiled a manufacturing careers information kit, Manufacturing NOW, funded by the 3M Foundation (St. Paul, Minn.; www.mmm.com). The kit is available - in conjunction with the GetTech program - to guidance counselors, trade associations, technical colleges and industry volunteers, and is designed to be used in classroom presentations, career days and during events such as National Engineers Week.
"This tool kit helps students see the connection between the math and science classes they take in school and career opportunities in the highly technical world of manufacturing. It's an important part of our GetTech initiative to attract students to technology-based careers," said Phyllis Eisen, executive director of the Center for Workforce Success.
GetTech - a joint effort of the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Center for Workforce Success - features public service announcements, a web site (www.gettech.org) and materials for schools and teachers. The Manufacturing NOW kit includes a 12-minute video of employees in skilled trade careers, a facilitator's guide, a student guide and a resource guide. The kit is designed for students in grades 7-12 and may be used by industry volunteers, teachers, and guidance counselors.
