Week of June 16, 1998 Manufacturing News Marcam Deploys Knowledge Management Solution For Technical Support Marcam Solutions (Newton, Mass.; www.marcam.com), a supplier of plant solutions for process manufacturers, has deployed software from Primus Knowledge Solutions (Seattle, Wash.; www.primus.com), a provider of problem resolution and knowledge management software. Marcam will use the Primus software throughout its technical support organization. Using the Primus SolutionBuilder solution, Marcam will be able to deliver technical support to the more than 100 process manufacturers that use its integrated, component-based process manufacturing software, Protean, for start-to-finish manufacturing operations. Support consultants at Marcam will use SolutionBuilder to access, manage and share knowledge about Marcam's next-generation Protean product line, which includes more than 20 object-oriented applications designed to meet the production, logistics, asset management and financial planning requirements of process manufacturing organizations. SolutionBuilder also enables the support consultants to author new solutions for the Protean knowledge base in the workflow and share them with other Marcam consultants in the U.S., Canada and the Netherlands. Early next year, Marcam plans to use SolutionBuilder to support PRISM, its process manufacturing solution for the IBM AS/400 platform, and to integrate Primus' SolutionPublisher to publish solutions for both the Protean and PRISM product lines on its Web site. Using SolutionBuilder, customers and channel partners will be able to log into a customized site to search the Marcam knowledge base for technical solutions.
