Transitions Optical Improves With Help of QAD's Collaborative Software

QAD (Carpinteria, Calif.; www.qad.com), collaborative commerce applications provider for manufacturers, announced the improvements in business processes, visibility of enterprise data, and profitability that Transitions Optical (Pinellas Park, Fla.; www.transitions.com), manufacturer of plastic photochromic lens technology, has made with QAD's MFG/PRO software. A long-time user of MFG/PRO, Transitions Optical estimates the solution has helped slash inventories by 43% and lead times by 50%.
Transitions Optical turned to QAD for its transition to the Euro at its facility in Tuam, Ireland. To further streamline its business processes internally and externally Transitions Optical has decided to move to MFG/PRO eB, called eB Desktop, at its sites around the world.
Transitions Optical will also use QAD's EDI ECommerce system. With EDI functionality embedded in QAD applications, users can download EDI templates from a variety of libraries, which EDI ECommerce edits and transforms based upon trading partner tables.
"We must be able to support customer and supplier variants of the standard EDI documents," said Tony Vallin, global director of information technology for Transitions Optical. "Sometimes, divisions within the same company use slightly different standards. The EDI ECommerce system will help us shorten lead times and reduce our dependency on external EDI Mapping services."
