Reynolds Metals Chooses J.D. Edwards For ERP Solution

Reynolds Metals (www.rmc.com), a fully integrated manufacturer of primary and value-added fabricated aluminum products, including Reynolds Wrap Aluminum Foil, has selected OneWorld and WorldSoftware from enterprise business software provider J.D. Edwards & Co. (www.jdedwards.com) to reduce the complexity of business processes and allow the business to grow and change, without being restricted by its technology solution.
Reynolds Metals currently has multiple, unintegrated systems that have evolved over time with acquisitions and divestitures, resulting in a fragmented data and business environment. The need for a fully integrated enterprise resource planning system (ERP) arose when the company decided to reorganize into five business units. Reynolds Metals is not only a large industrial aluminum manufacturer, but also a producer of packaging and consumer food management products. The company has the added pressure of being mature in a competitive marketplace.
"Because we operate in multiple industries, we have different requirements from our ERP system, including fast access to different types of information. In order to keep our supply chains loaded with inventory we need to be able to analyze data, such as inventory levels, product development cycles and cost levels, and be able to make changes and modifications as needed," said John Rudin, CIO at Reynolds Metals.
Reynolds Metals will run J.D. Edwards' OneWorld and WorldSoftware financial, manufacturing, logistics/distribution, human resources and payroll suites on the IBM AS/400 with a DB2/400 database. Reynolds Metals' initial implementation involving its Base Materials business unit and Shared Financial Services group is scheduled to go live in 1999. The software will be rolled out throughout the entire corporation over the next three to five years.
