Week of December 7, 1998 Manufacturing News Thru-Put Teams Up With BT Squared To Enhance Internal Supply Chain Management Thru-Put Technologies (www.thru-put.com), a provider of supply chain management solutions, plans to extend its products to enable customers to integrate the 2order interactive selling system from BT Squared Technologie (www.btsquared.com) with Thru-Put Manufacturing 5.0, a complete solution for planning, scheduling and control of the production environment. This combination will extend configuration and quote management capabilities throughout sales and distribution channels while providing sales agents with the scheduling information necessary to optimize orders at the point-of-sale. As an example: A manufacturer's rep may configure a truck with any one of five compatible transmissions supplied as component parts from their respective OEMs. If one of the transmissions is over-stocked in inventory, the configuration system used at the point-of-sale could dynamically present that model as the default choice. If inventory quantities are at nominal levels, the system might default to the model with the highest profit margin. Similarly, if the manufacturer operates at zero-inventory for transmissions, and the customer has a critical delivery date, the system could optionally present the choice with the shortest lead-time. The combination of Thru-Put Manufacturing 5.0 and the 2order interactive selling system will be accelerated by the new Configuration Designer/OEM product from BT Squared. Based on the Microsoft Component Object Model (COM) architecture, CD/OEM enables seamless integration with enterprise applications, without the overhead of data duplication or redundant synchronization.
