SMART software adapts to bring intelligent results

A geometric-based modeling technique is the basis for the new Smart Search software version 5.0. Imaging Technology Incorporated (www.imaging.com) announced the new edition as a stand-alone library of C/C++ machine vision tools.
SMART's modeling technique allows adaptation to a wide variety of process variations, producing fast, highly accurate search and alignment results. These capabilities are especially important in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing applications, including robotic wafer handling, wire bonding and inspection, IC assembly and component pick and place.
SMART Search is now capable of locating an object's position regardless of the degree of rotation. Its search technique looks for the image using only contour information. In addition, SMART also reports the size (scale) variation of a part.
SMART is able to report distinct information about the variations in images relative to trained patterns. With traditional, correlation based vision algorithms, information about an object is based on conformance, the percentage of the pixels in the trained pattern found in the searched image. SMART's geometric based search, on the other hand, provides additional information about the kind of changes that have occurred in the process, such as a part's position, angle, quality, score (similarity between the trained and searched object), and GeoQuality (similarity between contours of the trained and searched part).
