Week of November 30, 1998 New Products KAPES KAPES (Knowledge-Aided Planning and Estimating System) software from PS Industry Solutions Corp. (Lakeland, Fla.; www.kapes.com) is a system for manufacturing cost planning for the control of manufacturing costs, times and process methods for both piece parts and assembled product structures. It integrates the cost estimating process, from design through bid cost estimating to manufacturing engineering. It also promotes simultaneous engineering by bridging the gap between CAD and MRP. KAPES is designed around an integrated database that utilizes best manufacturing methods, industry standard time and global manufacturing cost rates to provide engineering, purchasing and estimating with optimal manufacturing process and costing. As client/server, it supports various UNIX and Windows NT platforms on the server and Windows clients. It accesses Oracle and Progress relational database managers.
