Membership

Daniel L. Berry, CFPIM, CIRM, is 1995 Voluntary Services Award Winner Daniel L. Berry, CFPIM, CIRM, president of the Gumtree Chapter and Region 4 director of education, was awarded the top annual award for volunteers-the APICS 1995 Voluntary Services Award. Berry received his award at the chapter awards celebration during the 1995 International Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Fla. Berry was recognized for his dedicated service to APICS on both the region and chapter level.

Berry's achievements started more than four years ago in Alabama. In 1991, Berry won the "Member Get a Member" contest. In the spring of 1992, Berry discovered the APICS Central Montgomery Chapter was inactive but still carried 43 active members on its roster. Berry revived the chapter and won a membership award for his efforts. Then, in 1993, Berry began working in Mississippi and spearheaded the effort to recruit new members and restore the APICS Gumtree Chapter. The result was an increase in membership from 46 to 105.

While working at Scruggs and Associates as a manufacturing consultant and retaining his membership in the U.S. Coast Guard, Berry attended region meetings, started certification review courses, volunteered to teach a Train the Trainer course and attended dinner meetings regularly.

"My goals have been directed to increasing the productivity of my associates and fellow APICS members through incremental improvement in knowledge and understanding of the APICS body of knowledge," Berry wrote in his acceptance of the nomination for the 1995 Voluntary Service Award.

General Education

APICS In-House Training Provides Convenient Education
Doctors may not make house calls anymore, but APICS does by making many of its programs available to organizations onsite at the location of their choice. These programs offer employees interactive education customized to meet the specific needs of an organization.
APICS in-house educational programs help companies in many ways, including: increasing productivity by ensuring uniform training for personnel, educating up to 25 employees at a time for one fee, reducing travel and hotel costs, and minimizing disruption in workflow.
For further information about APICS in-house education, contact the APICS Education Department at (800) 444-2742 or (703) 237-8344, ext. 264.

New Educational Session Selection Process for '96 Conference

Editor's Note: The October 1995 issue of APICS-The Performance Advantage explained that educational session presenters for the 1996 APICS International Conference and Exhibition will be selected by invitation only, i.e., no call for papers. The following statement from Thomas Cook, CFPIM, 1996 conference chair, explains the selection process.

To provide our attendees with the highest level of education, the 1996 conference committee has adopted a bold new way of developing the educational program. In keeping with the theme for APICS '96, "Harmonizing Business Solutions," the committee implemented an internal process for building the education matrix.

Instead of issuing a call for papers, the committee and its advisers will first design a program that responds to customer requests and then select presenters keyed to this program outline. Presenters will be chosen on the basis of specific expertise, past evaluations, name recognition in the industry and applicability to the conference theme. Speakers identified through this process will be contacted by the committee.

Anyone who wishes to be an educational session presenter at APICS '96 should forward a biographical sketch and list of topics to me at the following address:
Tom Cook
'96 Conference Chairman
2682 S. County Road, 300 East
Danville, IN 46122-4803

The conference committee and I thank you for your interest in APICS '96 and hope to see you in New Orleans, Oct. 13-17, 1996.
